Oktoberfest

Celebrating Oktoberfest in Canada

Oktoberfest’s roots can be traced back to 1810 in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. On October 12th of that year, the future King Ludwig was married and invited the entire city to attend the celebration. Since then, Oktoberfest has evolved into a harvest festival celebration with horse races, booths serving food and drink in large beer tents, parades, games, amusement rides, music and dancing.

Many cities in North America, particularly those with large German populations, hold Oktoberfest festivals similar to the one in Germany. The Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest in Ontario is the biggest Oktoberfest celebration outside of Germany and is an annual nine-day festival.

Maple Leaf’s iconic Schneiders Brand originated in Kitchener, Ontario and contains many authentic flavours of Germany, perfect for any Oktoberfest celebration.
