Celebrate with a Sub

Looking for a unique theme day event for your community? Why not have some fun and celebrate National Submarine Day on April 11th. We’ve got some creative food and activity ideas to help you celebrate this delightful theme day with your residents.

National Submarine Day is so popular that it is celebrated throughout the world on 2 different days; March 17th and April 11th. Canada and the US celebrate on April 11th to mark the anniversary of the US government’s purchase of its first submarine along with establishing the US Submarine Force in 1900.

Canada’s first 2 submarines were purchased on August 5th, 1914 by BC Premier Richard McBride. Premier McBride had heard of reports of a squadron of Imperial German Navy warships in the Pacific and he acquired the submarines in an effort to deter an attack. This tactic worked as the threat never became reality.
