What we have achieved:
- Established a Food Safety Advisory Council comprised of global experts to bring best practices in food safety to Maple Leaf and held three intensive two-day working sessions in 2009
- Launched our Safety Promise that provides a roadmap to guide ALL our food safety and workplace safety initiatives across the company (www.mapleleafpledge.com)
- Increased food safety leadership bench strength with appointment of three senior positions in food safety and quality assurance positions
- Launched Food Safety Foundations, a cross-functional training program, in partnership with University of Guelph. Total 18 sessions completed, attended by more than 400 people. An estimated 1,000 employees are scheduled to attend in 2011
- Created “Let’s Talk Food Safety” communication to engage all 22,500 employees on variety of related food safety topics and news distributed by Chief Food Safety Officer each month
