Celebrate Autumn
As the warm summer months come to an end, a Fall Harvest Festival is a great way to celebrate the crisp new season with favourite foods, music and fun ideas to get everyone involved.
For many of our residents, the harvest season was a time to give thanks for successful crops that had been sowed in and cared for round the clock. It was time for gathering with their loved ones and their community to celebrate the fruits of their labour. Bring back these fond memories with a Fall Harvest Festival featuring great food and fun activities.
Theme Day Activities
Get everyone involved and celebrate the Harvest season! We all know that many residents enjoy gathering together and that offering fun activities for them can have a positive impact on their wellbeing. The following are just a few suggestions to help you create some excitement at your festival!
Gratitude Wall: Expressing gratitude is scientifically proven to promote better sleep. Put up a large white sheet of paper. Invite seniors to write what they are grateful for or ask them to write words of thanks. You can display this throughout your home using TVs or digital signage.
Leaf Peeping: Leaf peeping is one of the most beloved fall activities for seniors. Give seniors a truly eye-opening look at fall foliage with a walk or bus tour.
Decorate: Bring some gorgeous autumn colour inside and have your seniors make fall leaf garlands. Or ask your seniors to decorate pumpkins with ribbons.
Apple Grab: Instead of bobbing for apples why not play apple grab? Have your seniors use small nets to scoop up floating apples. Have prizes for those that grab the most.
Pumpkin Can Knock Down: Using empty tin cans, fill 6 cans half full with dried beans. Tape the top of each can with strong tape to keep the beans inside. Decorate the tins to look like pumpkins (ask your seniors to help!) On a small table, stack cans in a pyramid. Each senior gets 3 bean bags to try to knock the cans down.Have fun prizes for those that can do it.
