off to the races
Celebrate in style and host your own traditional Kentucky Derby party at your Senior Residence. The Derby has been around for over a century and many seniors have watched this classic horse race for decades.
Theme Day Activities
Create some ambiance and decorate with “red roses” as the rose garland from 1896 was first showcased at the Derby and has remained a classic tradition.
Celebrate with hats and the bigger the better. In keeping with southern tradition, the Kentucky Derby has always been the place to watch the rich and famous show off their hats. Have the residents, men and woman alike, wear their favourite hats. For those don’t have one, take a trip to the dollar store or better yet, have some fun making them- the brighter in colour and the crazier the better!
The Race: create your own race and have residents place bets on horses completing in the Derby this year and build a leader board. Play the horse race game by rolling the dice to see who gets to the end of the track first.
